From IT Security to Product Management: A Deep Dive Into Chioma’s Career Journey.

On this episode of our employees’ spotlight, get to know Chioma, the powerhouse driving the amazing products at Earnipay.

Can we meet you?

My name is Chioma Theresa Nwadiko, and I’m the Product Manager at Earnipay. I’ve been a Product Manager for 4 years, and I have a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering from  Nnamdi Azikwe University. I love Anime. I love food, and I’m a K-drama fan!

Why did you become a Product Manager after studying Electronic and Computer Engineering?

My degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering already put me in the IT field. I started off as a generalist, and then I moved to IT Security. I didn’t really enjoy working as an IT Security Specialist. Then, I moved to programming at some point. I think I basically did everything. During those times, I was also in charge of documentation.

I became a Product Manager because I enjoy building things. I derive joy in seeing things through from ideation to completion. Remember, I was in charge of documentation during my work through IT Security and Programming, so I already had some skills necessary to begin my career as a Product Manager. All my experiences have shaped who I am today.

Why did you choose to work at Earnipay?

One thing that really struck me about Earnipay is the openness that thrives in the team. You know, it’s one thing to say you’re open, and it’s another thing to actually be open. Earnipay is “actually open”. There’s this atmosphere of calm and respect. So, this was one of the key things that made me join Earnipay, asides from other things, you know.

What does your role as a Product Manager entail?

Essentially, what I do is proper documentation and ideation of any product that Earnipay plans to launch. I ensure that designs are properly executed, that development is properly carried out, and that the product meets the acceptance criteria that have been created. I also ensure that there is a product-market fit. I achieve this by working closely with the Marketing and Customer Experience teams to ensure that we bring out the best in a product. At this point, we prioritise feedback from users.

Finally, I’m also in charge of recalling a product when we discover it doesn’t bring as much value to users.

What excites you about working at Earnipay?

To be honest, the first thing I love is the fact that I get to work from home fully. You know what it feels like when you hold fresh Agege bread! Then, I love the impact Earnipay has on the lives of people because I love building products that people find extremely useful.

What are your most proud achievements working at Earnipay?

(laughs) I think for every app I’ve pushed out, I’ve always felt proud. It’s just like asking which of my children I love best. I’m expected to love all my children equally.  All my feature releases have made me proud, including the ones I’ve done at Earnipay.

You mentioned that you love food; what’s your favourite food?

Ahh.. I don’t believe in having a favourite food o. I believe in food equality. I love all of them.

How do you unwind?

(laughs) I go out with my friends. We basically go restaurant-hopping. Sometimes, I watch movies and surf the internet.

Your advice for new and current PMs

I’d say keep moving, keep working, keep learning and be consistent.

This career path is not a sprint; look at it as a marathon. So, even though you don’t win in the first lap, there are still the second and third laps. In the long run, you’ll see that you’ve learned a lot of lessons. One more thing, enjoy the process and eat a lotttt of food. You’ll need it.

We hope you enjoyed reading Chioma’s story and have taken her advice to eat a lot of food😉. Till our next employee spotlight, bye!
